The goal of cybersecurity engineers is to reduce risk and solve vulnerabilities for organisations we are entrusted to defend, whether it be by finding the vulnerabilities or helping to remediate them. However this is not a task we take on alone, we often have to work with developers, product managers, non-technical co-workers and leadership which can often be frustrating.
While not a technical topic, by looking at VanKatwyks Helping Styles Inventory and the associated styles of caring, we can look to more effectively engage with external stakeholders to achieve the goals we seek to achieve. Approaching others with this in mind can help us engage them more effectively, helping us to work together in order to solve vulnerabilities and reduce risk while giving the greatest chance of an on-going, effective and harmonious relationship
